REAL WEDDING: LINDSEY & AVI

Happy Monday Guys….hope your weekend was lovely!!  Stopping by the cafe today is the incredibly talented and incredibly nice…Jesse Leake of Jesse Leake Photography. In a word…Jesse ROCKS!!  His work is simply STUNNING and when you check out the gorgeous images of Lindsey & Avi’s wedding, you will definately agree.  Not only are Lindsey & Avi a beautiful couple, they are a very special couple…they had two ceremonies…the first to honor Avi’s heritage and the second to honor Lindsey’s…..both ceremonies are truly beautiful….rich in tradition and beauty!  Let’s check out all the magic captured by Jesse of the first ceremony…..Enjoy!

Lindsey share their beautiful wedding story with us…….’Avi and I started dating 9 years ago during our junior year of high school after he asked me to the prom. Since then, we went to UC Davis together, moved to Boston for 3 years, and we just moved back to the Bay Area this summer before the wedding.

Planning two wedding ceremonies was such an amazing experience.  Avi’s family is Sikh and so we knew we wanted to honor his family by having a Sikh ceremony.  We also had some traditional Sikh pre-wedding events as well.  I also couldn’t imagine not wearing a white dress and walking down the isle with my dad, so we decided to do two separate ceremonies.

The Sikh culture was so wonderful to learn about and experience.  Avi’s family and friends were very welcoming to me and my family.  We basically had a whole week of Sikh wedding celebrations.  We had a Sangeet party the Saturday before the wedding weekend where we ate and danced and did a few traditional rituals and then the Thursday before the wedding my family hosted a Mendhi party where I had henna done on my feet and hands.  My bridesmaids were very into having henna done as well – they all had it done on the backs of their hands.  One of the most fun parts of the Indian ceremony were the beautiful clothes and jewelry that we got to wear.  Everyone looked so colorful, it was just beautiful and so fun because it was all new to me and my bridesmaids.

Having two ceremonies was the right decision for us, but it was also a lot to plan!  Luckily, my mom and sister and all my bridesmaids were super helpful and supportive.  Some of them flew out from across the country for the entire week leading up to the wedding!  Most of my bridesmaids were roommates from college plus one friend from high school and then my sister was my maid of honor.

We had the western ceremony and the reception at Wente Vineyards in
Livermore.  It was a beautiful setting and the weather ended up being perfect.  The bridesmaids wore dresses from Anthropologie and my sister’s dress was from Lord & Taylor.  My gown was by Marisa and we had the buttons and straps custom added.  My husband’s suit was by J.Crew.  We had the groomsmen all wear gray suits and then they all had matching black ties.

I loved the flowers for our wedding!  Anne Mendenhall did a fabulous job.  I wanted them to have a kind of wild flower look to them.  There were fresh herbs in them and we were all smelling them right before the ceremony to calm our nerves.  They looked so great with the henna too!’

I love the mix of all the beautiful colours in the clothing and jewlery… and the henna is AMAZING!!

One of my favorite shots!

Don’t you just love how Jesse captured the faces in the following images…all so beautiful!
