SARAH & JOHN’S BEAUTIFUL GARDEN WEDDING

Sarah & John’s beautiful garden wedding is so special to me for many reasons…I had the pleasure of meeting them and they are the most charming and fun couple….their wedding took place in Richmond, VA…my beautiful friend Courtney of Merriment  and Little White Book was their planner….the gorgeous ‘just picked from the garden flowers’ were designed by one of my favorite floral desingers, Flower Girls….and capturing all the beauty of their wedding story is David Abel of David Abel Photography.  During the planning stage, Courtney shared with me a little of the inspiration surrounding Sarah & John’s wedding story and it’s totaly my pleasure to share it with all of you…Enjoy!

Here’s a little info from Sarah……’Much of our inspiration came from the Little White Book and the Brides Cafe!

VCU arts brought us together, John and I met while in Grad School.  He received his Masters in Sculpture and Extended Media while I received mine in Craft/Material Studies (glassworking).  Since we are both practicing artists, we really wanted to share little touches that were handmade, for instance: John and I designed our invitations and our ‘Field Guides’ and our favors were made by hand by my Bridesmaid, Nicole Baumann (also a VCUarts alum).  Also important was our city, Richmond is where we met, we really wanted to highlight some of what is so fantastic about Richmond; Lewis Ginter is an obvious must-see and the cake was Tres Leches cake from Kuba Kuba (our personal favorite Richmond dessert).  Finally, we were lucky enough to be able to light my parents unity candle used in their wedding (which was also used for my oldest brother Adam’s wedding) and share my Grandpa’s mason jars which held the gorgeous flowers.  These small elements were significant to us, and really meant the world to me.

Mostly, we wanted the day to be a celebration for friends and family to come together and enjoy. We worked with many very talented people (yourself included) who brought it all together for us, we deliberately chose artisans whose work spoke to us, the flowers, the photographs, the music, the amazing coordination, our officiant, and the super helpful people at Lewis Ginter; we let the professionals do what they do best. Lewis Ginter is such a charming setting, we did not want to compete with the bounty of the gardens, rather we just wanted to blend and compliment the surrounding beauty.’
