GORGEOUS ‘STYLE SHOOT’ AT KENTUCK KNOB
Happy Monday Guys….hope you all had a beautiful weekend….we are opening the cafe with a beautiful ‘style shoot’ that took place at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Kentuck Knob in Pennslyvania….a charming venue to consider when planning your special day….the beautiful images were sent over by one of my favorite photographers and favorite ladies, Abby Jiu and event planner, Amber Karson shares all the details with us…Enjoy!
‘It’s not everyday that your event venue is designed by arguably one of the best American architects of all time. Creating a bridal photo shoot at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Kentuck Knob in Pennsylvania was an exciting opportunity for our entire vendor team which hailed from DC, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Completed in 1956, the home integrates organic architecture, attention to detail and custom-made, purpose driven interior design. It is located only four miles south of Wright’s most famous house, Fallingwater. The property also has an impressive collection of sculpture art including works from contemporary artists, a collection of English phone booths, and even a piece of the Berlin Wall! We were excited to design a look that highlighted all the various facets of the property and photographer Abby Jiu captured it beautifully.’ |

Kentuck Knob’s hexagon skylights served as a key inspiration in the design. We incorporated this shape into the tablescape with the purple place mats. ‘Guggenheim’ china from the Frank Lloyd Wright dinnerware collection (inspired by another one of his masterpieces) was adorned with hexagon menu cards printed by Chelle Paperie with a Frank Lloyd Wright font on wood veneer. We also had a three tiered hexagon cake with the same nail head trim detail you see in the place mats. Our color palette of red and purple was fresh and unexpected. I knew we wanted to incorporate red somehow as Frank Lloyd Wright included a signature red tile on all the homes he designed. I also adored the red phone booths in the sculpture meadow. When we found this antique collection of purple bottles we just had to use them! These vintage bottles were likely made during the late 1800’s. Manganese was used to keep clear glass from turning ‘bottle green’, but little did they know that the chemical used to keep glass clear would cause it to turn this fabulous shade of purple or amethyst after many years in the sunlight. The red and purple color concept for our shoot evolved from there. We wanted to incorporate natural elements in modern ways, nothing too rustic. You’ll see wood, stone and vintage glass throughout our design. For example, most of the stationery pieces were printed on wood veneer. We used Philippe Starck inspired ghost chairs which allowed the wood and stone of the space to show through in an artistic way. For our ceremony at the gorge overlook, we kept it simple letting the amazing view be the star, framed by a willow branch chuppah with red dahlias, roses and purple orchids designed by Holly Heider Chapple’s team. Vintage glass doorknobs repurposed as garden stakes with coordinating ribbon lined the aisle.’ |
