Karla shares all the info with us…..’When we first got together with Anne to discuss our concept for the shoot, we were filled to the brim with ideas. While we love the DIY, rustic look that has been popular in the wedding scene over the past year or two, we wanted to add a unique element by combining rustic elements with modern accents. Our initial inspiration came from a white enamel deer bust we saw in a decor magazine. While the little guy didn’t make the cut for the shoot, as we chose to shoot outdoors, the concept of modern-rustic theme carried on.
To set the scene, we chose a private estate in Middleburg, VA, which was formerly a horse farm. The house contained a beautiful garden area with light pink stucco walls leading us to choose the pink and gray color scheme you see in the invitations, menus and escort cards. The stationary itself, created by newcomer Lisa Jennings of Social-o-ology, displayed a predominantly modern look with geometric designs thread throughout the suite. We wanted to display the escort cards in a unique way so we strung them on yards of twine and light pink silk ribbon from a trellis next to the garden. At the opposite end of each piece of ribbon or twine we tied small skeleton keys made of white and clear enamel, a traditionally rustic element with a modern touch. We used pink silk linens for the tablescape which had a raw texture to them and combined them with ultra-modern glassware, dinnerware and flatware wrapped in white linen hemstitch napkins by pieces of twine. We chose Lucite Versailles chairs to bring in another traditional shape created from modern materials. The beautiful centerpiece created by Holly Chapple of Holly Chapple Flowers was created using a vintage seed tray filled with moss and a horse sculpture to play up the equestrian nature of the setting. We surrounded the tray with smaller arrangements and modern crystal candle holders to create a romantic yet luxurious scene.’
