DIY CONTEST FINALIST #3- STEFANIE’S SAVE-THE-DATES
Stefanie shares all the ‘411’……..’In my opinion, sending out Save the Dates has become a necessity in the wedding planning process – and not simply because people need a more and more advanced notice of a wedding they are being invited to, but I think because it has become such a common thing to do and wedding guests expect to receive something they can put up on their fridge. Because of this, we really wanted to send out Save the Dates, but if you’re on any kind of a budget, these little notes you just ‘pop in the mail’ can take a good chunk out of what you expect to spend on the invitations themselves. So we rolled up our sleeves and decided to get thrifty! |

Materials Used: Original library book check-out cards and their pouches… (we got them for free from an elementary school library that recently switched over to a computerized system) Custom ‘Save the Date’ rubber stamp ($5.00, Office Depot) Rotating date stamp ($6.00, Office Depot) Photo-booth photograph of the happy couple, scanned and printed out on home computer Photo paper for printing photographs ($15.00, Office Depot) Computer & home printer to print text onto cards A6 envelopes, Paper Source The idea to use the library cards was Sam’s — we saved on buying stationary, and managed to stay eco-friendly by using up old cards that have been obviated by new library computer systems. Once we had that to work with, we just went along with the retro library theme and got rubber stamps and red ink for the ‘save the date’ pouches and the wedding date. We also stuck with the retro feel and used a typewriter font to print our text onto the cards and then finished it off with an old photo-booth photograph of us…… |

… and voila! Creative, Unique and Inexpensive! To top it off, the Paper Source just happened to have blue envelopes that perfectly matched the blue lines on the cards.. And the best part is that the off white pouches had a peel-off adhesive surface on the back for attaching them inside books… so our guests had nothing to fear when they didn’t receive a magnet from us to put up on their fridge — our save the dates could be stuck anywhere!’ |
