MEET ISHA FOSS OF ISHA FOSS EVENTS

Happy Monday Guys….today, I’m excited to start our ‘Meet the Designers’ series back at the cafe and we are starting the series off with the oh-so-beautiful and talented, Isha Foss of Isha Foss Events!  Isha’s events are always so beautiful and she’s a joy to work with…she services the Virginia and North Carolina areas and she is   willing to travel.  Isha Foss Events provides full design including linens and custom draping. Now let’s check out our interview with Isha…Enjoy!!!

TBC:  What’s a typical day like for you?

Isha:  My morning starts with checking social media, then returning phone calls and e-mails.  Most of my day is spent writing proposals, reserving rental, sketching room designs, and ordering flowers and containers that I need to make the event space complete.  Oh, and lots of shopping for table accents.  I end most days on my favorite blogs!

TBC:  What wedding trend would you like to see disappear?

IshaI think everything can be beautiful in the right setting and with the right balance.  So I’d like the trend of “too much” to disappear.  I’d love for weddings to be more edited in the sense of taking away that one idea that is just – too much.

TBC:  Describe your client.

Isha:  My clients are typically professionals, creative, and have a strong sense of style.  Some are local, but many are returning to the area for their weddings.  My couples like to combine both trends and traditions when expressing their style.

TBC:  Where do you find inspiration?

IshaNature is my biggest inspiration for shapes and textures, but I am also inspired by interior design, gardening magazines, and hardware stores!

TBC:  Name one of your favorite “vendor” sources that you just can’t do without.

Isha:  I find a lot of items at my local thrift stores and fabric stores.  I do feel that it is important for designers to keep some sources to themselves or you just end up seeing the same thing everywhere

TBC:  Describe your design style.

Isha:  I try to make my event spaces feel like a comfortable home and make sure that the designs fit the environment.  In terms of flowers, I prefer monochromatic or complimentary colors.

TBC:  To date, what has been the highlight of your career?

Isha:  One continuing highlight is creating opportunities in the industry and mentoring.  My biggest highlight is one that I cannot really elaborate on.  Let’s just say that I was able to design at a VERY special residence.

TBC:  What advice would you give to upcoming floral designers?

Isha:  Follow your passion, but know your numbers.  Really take time to educate yourself on the business aspects so that you can be around to create your art for a long time.

TBC:  You are hosting a personal event/party…and you don’t have time to design the flowers…what floral designer would you ask to design the flowers for the party.

Isha:  Daniel Ost.

TBC:  When I’m designing, I love to light my candles and play “old school” music.  Do you guys have a ritual that you like to do when designing?

Isha:  Adam Levine is definitely on my ‘get it done’ playlist.  I like to finish with Montel Jordan’s “This is how we do it”!

TBC:  What’s your favorite part about weddings when it comes to the florals?

Isha:  Of course I love the bouquet, but I also enjoy creating the place card display.  I typically have carte blanche and it is usually fun or dramatic.

TBC:  If you had to make a career change, what would you do?

Isha:  I would love to be in the performing arts field.  I would be a singer or dancer – except that I can’t dance!

TBC
:  Describe your personal style…what are your favorite stores to shop at?

Isha:  I like easy comfortable pieces paired with jackets and boots.  Asymmetrical closures, buckles, dramatic collars.  My best colors are cool tones of blues and berries and I try to stick with what works for me.  I like to shop TJMAXX, Zara and Nordstrom online and Macy*s for the I.N.C. line.

TBC:  Now, personal as in your home.

Isha:  My home is traditional and comfortable.  Warm colors, with family artwork and photos

Just for fun!!!

TBC:  Do you prefer tea or coffee?

Isha:  Coffee please!

TBC: Do you prefer blogs or magazines?

Isha:  Magazines, for the feel of the paper.

TBC: Do you prefer Grey or Colour?

Isha:  I like color.

TBC:  And, I have to ask…what’s your favorite flower?

Isha:  I am currently having a love affair with Eucharis and Nerine lilies, and their very distant cousin the Amaryllis.

Thanks so much Isha for stopping by the cafe today and sharing a little of your world with us…we hope you have an AWESOME wedding season and we’ll  see you back at the cafe…guys, head over to Isha’s blog site to see what she’s been up to lately….and if you are in the Tidewater area for Valentines, make sure you stop by Isha’s Valentine Pop-Up Flower Shop……xoxoxo
