Hi Guys….I’m so excited for our ‘Meet the Designer’ feature today….stopping by the cafe is the AMAZINGLY talented and beautiful, Kelly Lenard of Intertwine!! I’ve been a fan of Kelly’s beautiful floral designs for quite sometime and I’m simply thrilled to have her stop by the cafe today and share a glimpse into her floral world with us today. Kelly’s floral designs are not only beautiful to the eye, they are simply magical…just take a look at the images I’m sharing with you today and make certain you head over to her site and check out her lovely gallery. Kelly shared with me that travel is a huge passion of hers, so she would love to do weddings anywhere and everywhere as often as she can! Kelly said she’s seriously thinking about making her hauling trailer livable, so that she could be on the road for weeks at a time. Kelly is currently based near Chicago and often works in the city, Michigan, Indiana, and Nashville. So without further ado….I give you our featured designer at the cafe….Kelly Lenard….Enjoy!!! |

TBC: What was your “Ah Ha” moment…the moment that you knew being a floral designer was your passion?
KL: Looking back there were so many signs to point me in this direction. I used to plant secret gardens in the woods behind my house, pick violets and lilac from our yard and try to sell them to the neighbors, and when I was two I named my inseparable teddy bear Flower Patch. I think the “Ah Ha” moment was when I did the flowers for my own wedding without having any experience. It just came naturally to me and I was hooked. TBC: Where do you find inspiration? KL: I’m so inspired by the color of light and how it changes the shades of the landscape over the course of the day. I love picking out different hues in the natural world and using them for palette inspiration. I’m also of course inspired by travel, interior design, fashion, art, and flowers themselves.

TBC: Describe your style?
KL: I like a mix of romantic blooms with earthy fillers. Often the style of my arrangements is influenced by the product I have available. I try to let the stems move the way they were intended to in nature. I sometimes feel like my work grows wilder as summer turns to fall and my yard is full of overgrown goodies to snip. TBC: To date, what has been the highlight of your career? |

TBC: What advice would you give to upcoming floral designers and what was the best advice you received?
KL: Stay true to who you are as an artist. Be dedicated to improving your craft. Take the time to document your work through photographs. It’s much easier to get your name out if you have beautiful imagery to share. Get your hands on as many floral varieties as you can. I’m always learning something new with each passing season.Know that it’s a lot of hard work behind the pretty exterior. You have to really love it and be prepared to get dirty, endure long days and nights, and do a lot of heavy lifting. The best advice I got was just to trust in myself and my dreams. I truly believe that with hard work and dedication, you can do anything you put your mind to. |

TBC: If you had to make a career change, what would you do?
KL: I went to school for photography and think I’d likely be doing more of that, while traveling the country in a camper van like a wandering hippy. I guess I would be …homeless. If I couldn’t get by being homeless, then I’d start a venue or be a flower farmer. |

TBC: Describe your personal style…personal as in your fashion style or your home…what are your favorite stores to shop at?
KL: I like an artsy combination of classic pieces and bohemian details. My house is currently a mix of Ebay, Anthropologie, garage sale finds (I love a good bargain), and a little bit of Home Goods. I like neutrals mixed with pops of color and fun texture. I also adore house plants even though I’m pretty bad at keeping them alive. For fashion I’m a Free People kinda girl, who enjoys J.Crew staples, and Anthropologie for shoes and accessories. And when I can’t afford any of these places you can find me at Marshalls or wearing something I’ve had since high school. |

TBC: Just for fun….Finish this statement: I can’t leave home without…..
KL:….. my dog, he’s my shadow and best bud.

TBC: Your favorite musical artist…..
KL: Oooh I don’t think I could choose just one. While working I’m often listening to Feist, Fleetwood Mac, Florence and the Machine, Fleet Foxes….ha apparently anything that starts with an “F”.

TBC: Favorite flower at the moment…… KL: I just planted a bunch of bleeding heart, astilbe, autumn clematis and foxglove that I’m really excited about. Although, I never tire of garden roses, ranunculus, clair de lunes, and cafe au lait dahlias. Large ruffled blooms always steal my heart. |

TBC: Do you prefer blogs or magazines…..magazines.
KL: I still love tearing out good old fashioned inspiration and saving it in my “favorites” folder. It’s so interesting to lay it all out and see the repetition of colors and details that always catch my eye and make up my style.
