Tara shares all the ‘411’ with us….’Anuhea and Kanoa met in the 5th grade, but it wasn’t until they transferred to the same high school that friendship turned into love. Though they ran in the same circle of friends, Kanoa was a star athlete while Anuhea was a talented hula dancer. After Anuhea turned Kanoa down a handful of times, it wasn’t until their Senior year of high school that she had a change of heart and the friends became a couple.

At the end of their Senior year, the couple went off to separate colleges- Kanoa to
Boulder and Anuhea to Portland. The two decided to stay together and their relationship continued to grow. The couple moved back to Oahu after graduating and in 2007 became pregnant with their daughter Makenzie. On April 25, 2008 the couple married in a small ceremony so that Anuhea could put Kanoa on her medical plan. They only told their family and close friends as word spreads like wildfire in Hawaii (the infamous ‘coconut wireless’) and the couple still wanted to throw a big wedding. On April 25, 2009, under a beautiful old Koa tree at Pu’uwa’awa’a Ranch, Anuhea and Kanoa tied the knot again.

Pu’uwa’awa’a held a special place in the couple’s hearts as Kanoa’s grandfather, uncles, cousins and father all worked at the Ranch. The reception was held at a Clubhouse that the couple was able to rent through a friend of a friend of a friend… that’s the way it goes in Hawaii! The couple had 22 in their bridal party- the largest wedding party photographer James Rubio has ever shot. The color palette of green and purple was woven throughout the event- from the orchids in Anuhea’s hair, to her Pikake and Pakalana lei to the centerpieces and dessert bar. Guests were given baby Koa trees as favors, reminiscent of the couple’s engagement shots and ceremony that took place under a Koa tree. The menu was a mix of Hawaiian and local favorites: kalua pig, king crab legs, prime rib, shrimp tempura, caprese and pasta salads and an array of side dishes. Three bands took the stage that afternoon as well as Anuhea who danced a hula for her husband. Friends and family also took to the dance floor that afternoon where traditional hula and lots of boogying.

Anuhea and Kanoa’s wedding was chic and sophisticated and full of Hawaiian and Island-style touches. From the bright color palette to the fragrant lei to the simple and beautiful ceremony under a Koa tree, Anuhea and Kanoa’s wedding was what a wedding in
Hawaii is all about.’
