REAL TEXAS WEDDING – ARLENE & OMAR

We decided on a black and white color scheme with a few pops of red.  I found the perfect red heels by Nina Shoes and we used black magic red roses, red calla lilies, and red dahlias for our centerpieces, bridesmaids’ bouquets, and grooms attendants’ boutonnieres/bouquet (we had 5 bridesmaids, 4 groomsmen and 1  groomswoman).  It was important to us that we included certain Catholic Hispanic customs in to our ceremony so we had a unity lazo, exchanged arras, and were presented with a new family Bible and Rosary.  My wedding dress was also accented by two very special details:  my sister’s cathedral length veil and my late grandmother’s wedding band on my bouquet.  At the reception, guests sat at tables named after some of our favorite university traditions, we sang the Aggie War Hymn (our school’s fight song), and at the end of the night our family and friends waved Texas A&M 12th Man rally towels for our send-off.

My groom was probably not like most grooms in that he played a major role in the planning.  As an architect, his design background allowed him to create personalized pieces such as my engagement ring, our wedding bands and the invitation suite (including our save-the-dates, wedding invitations, enclosures, labels, wedding program, menus, etc).  He even designed our monogram lighting!  When it came time to pick out a groom’s cake, he knew exactly what he wanted and Frosted Art perfectly executed a delicious red velvet cake of our alma mater’s logo made out of fondant Legos!

Omar and I have such awesome and supportive family and friends and we wanted to make sure they were a big part of the celebration.  In between the ceremony and reception, we drove our wedding party around in a mini bus and took lots of fun photos in and around the Arts District of downtown Dallas.  We finished off our photo shoot with a little tequila shot toast before we headed over to the reception to continue the party.  We had so much fun dancing with all of our guests and enjoying great food and drinks!  We especially loved that our caterers created a personalized meal which was inspired by the first dinner I ever prepared for Omar.  Overall, it was amazing to see all of our planning come together for this one big night.  We owe a huge thanks to our photographers, Matt & Ivy of Ivy Weddings, for capturing some unforgettable moments.  We felt like it really represented us as a couple and we had such a wonderful time celebrating with all the people we love.’
