Kat shares a little info with us about the shoot…..

‘scott clark, wedding photographer and all around cool guy, and i collaborated on this photo project together.  inspired by our beloved brooklyn, we created a love story framed by the borough of kings — urban yet bucolic, vintage but modern, romantic with a little edge.  we conceptualized an elopement — the municipal steps, the ceremony in prospect park, the intimate celebration at a local mexican restaurant and everything, from the models, to the locations, to the clothing is inspired by brooklyn, as well as our own distinct style.

in keeping with the elopement theme, everything was kept easy breezy.  i made the backdrop by cutting three different prints and sewing them onto clothesline.  the wardrobe styling was also simple — great vintage finds with contemporary touches.  i dressed her as i would myself, even going as far as to use my own shoes, jewelry and belt.  scott did the same.  but the locations — the thicket of trees, the branch canopy, the carousel, the library’s golden facade, my favorite local restaurant — were really inspiring.  what can i say, i’m a brooklyn girl.

as for the flowers, i wanted them to be feminine, seasonal, textural, colorful and sweet.  you have so many options in late spring but i knew that i wanted to use mountain laurel, one of the last of the blossoming branches.  peonies are always a favorite as well as darcy garden roses, chamomile, scabiosa and blueberries.  in lieu of a veil, i opted for garden roses in the hair — wanted to maintain that freshness and romanticism.  i must admit, i loved that bouquet.

while we talked about this project for months, we threw it all together in a matter of days, much like a real elopement.  it was truly a labor of love and i’m over-the-moon excited and delighted to share it and some of my process on the cafe, one of my favorites.’

Kat, I love this bouquet..makes me smile!
